On Thursday, March 30th, Generocksity - Vancouver organized a blood drive on campus on behalf of the Canadian Blood Services. Volunteers were able to donate live-saving blood between classes, which is critical for the medical care of many, such as for major surgeries, cancer treatment, and disease management. Stay tuned for our next Good Deeds event!
On March 12th , 2017, volunteers enjoyed the unique opportunity to meet clients of the Harbour Light Feeding Ministry as they served food and drinks at the soup kitchen. This community meal program is dedicated to providing nutritious free meals for men, women, and children in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Service is carried out in a caring, dignified manner and the facility can serve as a gateway to the many facilities run by Vancouver Harbour Light. These facilities include rehabilitation centres, emergency shelters and more.
Stay tuned for our next Good Deeds trip!
Thank you to everyone who came out to our backpack run in the Downtown East Side (DTES) this Saturday! 17 students (our largest trip to date!) braved the snow at 7 AM in the morning to handout various provisions to those battling this weekends harsh weather in the DTES. We managed to hand out some much needed winter clothing including shoes, gloves, scarves, socks and sweaters directly to those living in the DTES. We additionally, handed out sandwiches, fruits and other nutritious items to those living in the DTES. The residents of the DTES engaged the volunteers in lots of warm, interesting conversations and everyone had an enlightening time!
This trip would not have been possible without the expertise of Beneath One Sky UBC who led our backpack run downtown and co-hosted the food/clothing drive!
